CENTERPOINT:: New Summer Schedule Announced!

 

 

 

 

 

CENTERPOINT:: Banks Mill announced a new summer schedule beginning June 3, 2012. 

Student services will move to Sunday night beginning June 3rd with the following schedule:

Middle School Student Service: 5PM – 6PM

Details: Rising 6th Graders through rising 8th graders are invited to come and have a real, relational, and relevant time of worship from 5PM to 6PM. Doors will open at 4:30PM for students to come and hang out in our new GREEN Room. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase during that time! Also, Middle Schoolers are encouraged to go to our Middle School HOME Groups that will meet on campus following the student service at 6PM (Middle Schoolers can grab dinner from the cafe and then head to their small group). 

Hang-out/Dinner: 6PM-7PM

Details: From 6PM – 7PM all students are invited to come have dinner with us at CENTERPOINT and hang out in the GREEN Room. There will be snacks, drinks, and pizza/hot dogs available. The Sunday Night Special will be $2 for a piece of pizza, drink, and a bag of popcorn. Middle Schoolers are encouraged to grab a bite to eat at 6PM and head directly to a M.S. HOME Group during that hour.

High School Student Service: 7PM – 8PM

Details: Rising 9th Graders through graduates are invited to our High School Student Service from 7PM to 8PM.

What does my student do on Sunday Morning?

There are three options for our students on Sunday morning:

  1. Worship in the adult service with family and/or friends! We want our students to be a part of what is going on in Cedar Creek Church as a whole, and be introduced to and prepared for when they graduate from high school. For this reason we want our students to be a part of the adult service.
  2. Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer! We also want our students to be involved in our other ministries at Cedar Creek Church – whether that be Kidz Creek, WEE Worship, the Cafe, Greeting, etc. There  is a place for each student to volunteer on Sunday morning. We encourage everyone at Cedar Creek to practice “worship one, serve one” – which means students should try to worship and serve each Sunday instead of just doing one!
  3. We will be offering a “CENTERPOINT: Made New.” class each Sunday morning during the 11AM service in Bulding 4. This will be a small group atmosphere, and will go through the basics of what it means to be a Christian, and what Cedar Creek Church and CENTERPOINT is all about. All rising 6th graders are encouraged to come to this class to prepare for the student ministrybut all students are invited to be a part!

Do you need volunteers?

Yes! We would love for our parents and adults to be a part of what we are doing at Centerpoint. There are places to volunteer, whether it be in the cafe, at the welcome tables, HOME group leaders, or as general greeters. We would love to have you volunteer either once or twice a month! I have a middle schooler and a high schooler, and can’t bring them separately. What do I do?

The GREEN Room will be open throughout the night for any student who has to be on campus before or after their scheduled service time. So if a high schooler needs to be on campus during the middle school service hour, they can either be a middle school leader and help lead, or they can stay in the GREEN Room during that time. Similarly, a middle schooler who needs to stay through the high school service can stay in the GREEN Room. No middle schoolers will be allowed in the high school service.

Disciple Now Student Retreat NEWS

The Disciple Now Student Retreat is a local weekend retreat where students in grades 6-12 gather for worship and experience small group discipleship while staying in local homes.  The event is January 27-29.  Visit www.disciplenow2012.com for information and to register.  The whole church and community can help our students with the Disciple Now Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, January 28, by collecting items for Christ Central Aiken.  The items needed and instructions are given below.

DiscipleNOW Student Scavenger Hunt

As a part of DiscipleNOW weekend, on January 28th students at all campuses of Cedar Creek Church will be taking part in a scavenger hunt to benefit Christ

Central in Aiken and the surrounding areas. Students will be collecting the following items from 1:30pm – 4:00pm that afternoon. If students do not visit your

house, we ask that you bring your items to Cedar Creek Church – Banks Mill Campus between 5:00pm and 6:00pm on that Saturday.

On The Ridge Campus Only: Please bring any items students do not pick up to your campus on Sunday morning.

Please consider having items available for the students to help them with their hunt and to partner with Christ Central as they minister to our community.

 

The following items are needed:

Electric Heaters (New or Used)

Laundry Detergent

Toilet Paper

Diapers

Baby Wipes

Blankets or Comforters

Deodorant

Canned Meats (Spaghetti-Os, sauce, tuna, etc.)

Peanut Butter

Jelly

Pasta (of any type)

Rice

Cleaning Supplies (bleach, cleanser, etc.)

Cereal

Towels and Washcloths (New or Used)

Bath Soap

Sheets (New or Used)

Pots and Pans (New or Used)

Extra Large Sized Clothing (2xl and up)

Coats (any size) (New or Used)

Monetary Donations will be used to purchase items.

CENTERPOINT Sunday Morning reWind (1/8/2012)

BE WEIRD.

What? Be Weird? But I don’t want to be weird! I don’t want people looking at me funny, thinking I’m odd, or talking about me behind my back! I want to fit in, I want to be normal!!

That’s probably what you’re thinking – its what I used to think too! Then I realized something – normal isn’t working!  Students who are normal are students who are overwhelmed with schoolwork and activities, emotional wrecks because of relationships, fighting with their parents, always striving for more stuff, recognition, and acclaim, and are quietly leading themselves down a path of destruction.

A path of destruction? That’s kinda harsh right? Well, its what Jesus said! Check out Matthew 7:13:14:

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Jesus said that the path everyone else is following, the normal path, is actually the wrong way! The truth is, the path that God wants you to take is the weird path. Its the path that most people aren’t going down. It’s a tough path, a hard road, but its one that leads to life instead of destruction.

This year choose to be weird! Choose to follow God’s Word instead of the crowd. When two choices are in front of you, and one is hard because no one else is doing it even though its the right thing to do, go that way, and God will reward you!

CENTERPOINT – Sunday Morning reWind (12/11/2011)

Tis the Season – Peace

It seems that we are always singing about peace during Christmas time doesn’t it? But the truth is that a lot of times our lives feel a lot more like the family depicted in Home Alone, where everything that could go wrong during Christmas does go wrong. Its almost like we just have to endure our families so we can get to the good stuff – the presents!

The truth is that peace can never be found by examining your circumstances and situations to determine whether everything is right or not – because everything is never going to be right! There is always going to problems, issues, arguments, and everything else that tempts to steal peace from your life. The good news of Christmas, though, is that Jesus offers us peace in the midst of our circumstances and situations. We can look to Jesus and find peace even when our circumstances are chaotic. Even when things aren’t all right, our hearts can be right in Jesus.

Christmas is a season of peace because Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Check out Isaiah 9:6 when the prophet was looking forward to our Savior coming – he called him the Prince of Peace! And when the angels came to visit the shepherd, they proclaimed in Luke 2:14, “”Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

Here are some very cool ways that Jesus brings peace into our lives:

  • Supernatural  Comfort – even in the midst of all the “crap” that’s going on in our, Jesus brings an unexplainable, unfathomable peace to our hearts.
  • Lasting and Sincere Contentment – Jesus teaches us and works in us so that we are content with who we are in Him and what He has given us.
  • Strength to Get Through – The Holy Spirit (GOD!) lives in our hearts – the same power that conquered the grave lives in us! We have strength and power in us.
  • Greater Purpose for Life – a lot of our unrest and anxiety comes from following the world’s definition of success – and Jesus gives us a new way to live that is full of peace and rest, living in His will for our lives.
  • Loving Father – God holds us, comforts us, protects us, loves us as a loving Father, and we can rest in His arms knowing He is there
My prayer for everyone this Christmas is that you will be filled with the peace that comes from Jesus!

Sunday Morning reWind: Tis the Season: Hope (12/4/2011)

Christmas is a time when there is a lot of hope.  We are all familiar with the Christmas class A Christmas Story when Ralphie is filled with hope that for Christmas he will get a Red Rider BB Gun! Just like Ralphie, our hopes a lot of times center around the things that we will be getting for Christmas – and sometimes our hopes are realized, and sometimes they aren’t!

But the truth is that hope is much bigger than just an emotion you get different times of the year – life before Christmas, your birthday, or when that guy or girl is about to ask your out! Hope is a state of being, a lifestyle, and you can choose to live in hope each day of your life.

The Christmas story reminds us that the basis for our hope is that God can and will do greater things through us then we can every hope or imagine. He just asks us to put our hope and trust in the one who is able and powerful to work in our lives! Ephesians 3:2-210 says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

Christmas reminds us that God is working in every situation and circumstance in our lives, even when things seem hopeless. Mary could have lost all hope knowing that she would be ridiculed and looked down on because she was having a child outside of marriage, but instead she choose to put her hope in the God who has great plans for her. Similarly, we can choose to put our hope in God, who promises to work all things for our good, or we can surrender to our circumstances. Christmas also reminds us that God uses some of the most ordinary people and ordinary circumstances to do extraordinary things! He is looking for those who will put their faith and trust in him, and those who will hope for big things!

This Christmas, remember that God is wanting to do big things with your life, if you’ll put your hope in Him!

CENTERPOINT – Second Sunday This Sunday!

This Sunday, November 13th, is our monthly Second Sunday student worship gathering! Here’s all the details you need to know:

On Sunday morning students will attend adult worship, and students who have signed up to volunteer will continue to volunteer in their areas!

Sunday Night will be SECOND SUNDAY GAMEDAY and students are encouraged to wear their favorite school’s color as they compete with their grade level to win a special surprise at the end of the night! We’ll also have guest speaker CHIP HERRING bringing the word!

We will provide dinner for all students starting at 6PM and the evening will end at 8PM!

Students – remember our goal with Second Sunday is to invited our unchurched friends so they can hear the good news of Jesus Christ! Make sure to bring all your friends from your grade level to ensure victory!!
