Surviving the Holidays

“Tis the season to be jolly!” While most years that may be true, if this is your first holiday season since you lost a loved one due to separation, divorce, or death, chances are you are wondering how you are going to get through it.

The truth is, it is likely to be difficult. That is the bad news. The good news is that we have a free seminar to help you plan for the emotional bear-traps that threaten, and tips on how to avoid them.

We’d like to share these tips with you, and have you participate in a round table discussion with others who are going through, or have gone through life circumstances similar to yours. Take advantage of the time-tested and validated strategies to navigate the holidays safely, prepared for the emotional surprises “I thought I was over” that may otherwise send you for a spill.

If it isn’t you, chances are good you know someone who will appreciate your alerting them to this gathering. Do that friend a favor and pass along this information.
Surviving the Holidays will be held at Cedar Creek Church Banks Mill in building 3, Thursday, November 20th, from 6:30 until 9:00. For more information call 803.649.3096 ext. 143.

Banks Mill folks Being The Church (Part #1)

Last weekend (2/22/14) we had a few folks show up to Be the Church!  We had a great time and helped a few folks too.

One project was right outside our front door.  As we were gathering to go out, this gentleman was trying desperately to get his and our mailbox areas cleaned up.  So “See a need, meet a need” and we did.  He explained to us that he was actually on his way to Atlanta to visit with his daughter.  We told him to go on we got this!

Our next project was on Murray ave.  We met Mis Kim.  Her dad actually called me asking if we could help his daughter.  She is a disabled single mom who needed some help getting some limbs off of her house.

These guys did an amazing job at getting the trees off of her house.

Even the kids had fun!

Serving – Caring

Day 4 – Caring

Romans 12:6-8 - We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

If we are open to serve Him, He will touch lives through us!!

A true story;

One day, in a conversation with a man, he shared that at one time in his life he lived on the streets of Philadelphia as a homeless person. He described the life and how he survived. I was captivated by his story. At one point, I asked him what had prompted him to leave the streets. He looked at me and he smiled and said,” well you know how Christians are; they are always in the park talking and handing out literature and praying. One day someone said something to me that caused me to realize I needed to go home. I don’t know what they said or who they were, but they changed my life”.  Because of this story we know that somewhere in the Philadelphia area there is a volunteer for Christ that changed a life and most likely that person will never know it, but God knows it.

Another story of caring;

St. Augustine wrote about an experience he had one day. As he was walking down a road, he passed a leper and he moved to the other side of the road to avoid any contact.  After some reflection, he decided to go back and assist the sick man. Once he had comforted him and done all he could do he started to leave. After only a few steps he turned to look back. The leper was gone. St. Augustine was convinced that the leper was Jesus. This story makes me wonder; how many times have we passed Jesus without stopping? How many times have we been given the opportunity to serve and didn’t take it?

Matthew 5:8 - Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
