PRESCHOOL:

Story: David is Strong in Battle • 1 Samuel 18:7; 12-14

This Week David sang and danced for God because God had helped him win battles. Then, King Saul sent David into yet more battles. God helped David win all of them.

Cuddle Time: Spend some time cuddled with your child thanking God for helping us with anything. “Dear God, thank You for helping us no matter what we need help with. Thank You for helping me take care of (child’s name). Thank You for helping us have a home and food to eat. Thank You for loving us, God. Amen.”

ELEMENTARY:

Virtue: Knowledge – Discovering something new so you can be better at whatever you do.

Bible Story: Jesus is Tempted in the Desert (Luke 4:1-13)

Bottom Line: When I discover what God says, I can make wise choices.

Memory Verse: “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God

and man.” Luke 2:52, NIV

MEAL TIME: Use these simple open ended discussion questions to lead your family.

Ask a Kid: What’s the hardest decision you’ve had to make recently?

Ask a Parent: How can knowing what God says help you make wise choices?

Hey Ridge Family,
I had such a good time worshipping with you all on Sunday morning.  There was a great spirit in the room for both services.  Always a fun time when kids are incorporated in the service, and always a blessing when young kids are around and holding microphones (thataboy Eli!! Future worship leader!) Below is the setlist and the artist in case you want to worship with these songs during the week!

Do you remember where you were when you heard about the attacks on September 11, 2001?

More important question…What was your response to September 11, 2001?

Fears range in levels of significance.

My fear of getting caught speeding to my fear of snakes to my fear of losing my children.  While I use the same word on all 3 there are different levels of fear and they play out differently in my life.

1.  Fear is two things
Fear is our response to being caught in sin.
Fear is our response when we lose control.  (Trust)

Story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

Read Daniel 3
He can…/He will…/But even if He doesn’t
2.   We defeat fear by resting in God
Psalm 23:4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Rod and staff symbolize the presence, the protection, and the guidance of God.
3.   Times of fear can become times of platforms.
He can…/He will…/But even if He doesn’t

This Week (September 11) God helped Samuel choose the boy who would be the new king.

Car Time

While driving around town this month, talk about things that are really hard to do. It’s really hard to learn to tie our shoes. Who can help you? God can help me do anything. It’s really hard to eat our veggies sometimes. Who can help you? God can help me do anything.

ELEMENTARY:

Story: The Lion and the Bear • 1 Samuel 17:34-37
This Week (September 4) God helped David, a shepherd, save his sheep from both a lion and a bear!

Play Time
Use your child’s plush or plastic animals to retell the story of David and the lion and bear. The lion and the bear tried to take a sheep, but God helped David to save the sheep from the lion and bear. God can help me do anything! After telling the story several times, have your child tell it.

Having a meal is great, but getting dessert at the end of the meal is a bonus. Just like desserts, grace is something extra we get that we don’t necessarily deserve or expect. It’s a bonus.

No matter what we’ve done or where we are, Jesus will come and find us, just like He spent time with people in the Bible who didn’t always get things right. And you know what? Not a single one of us gets things right all the time. But God promises to look for us anyway. We get a lot more than we deserve. In fact, we get exactly what we don’t deserve: a loving Savior.
