Brief Description: This ministry was created at the request of Aiken Regional Medical Center, and our volunteers are considered part of the ARMC Team. HCT Volunteers practice The Ministry of Presence. We visit ARMC patients (not CCC church members) to demonstrate the love described by Christ in Matthew 25:36 (…I was sick and you looked after me…) to others. We neither evangelize nor recruit patients to visit Cedar Creek Church. We demonstrate God’s unconditional love through the investment of time without conditions.
Volunteers typically visit patients whom floor staff have identified as having no family or other visitors. The purpose of the visit it simply to offer a friendly hello and brief attention and conversation to these patients.
Volunteers are free to offer to pray for patients at the end of the visit, and to answer any direct questions patients may have regarding matters of faith or Cedar Creek Church.
Requirements: Aiken Regional Medical Center establishes requirements for hospital volunteer orientation and health status. The Hospital Care Team volunteers train new volunteers in patient visit best-practices. A personal background check is conducted at no cost to the volunteer.
Gifts/Skills Desired: This position befits someone with a Servant’s Heart, having empathy for others, is a good listener and can chat with strangers. A willingness to engage in simple prayer (we provide a template to get you started) is necessary. A bit of patience and gentle assertiveness is a bonus in dealing with busy floor staff.
