A Message Of Caring

Dr. Gary Powell

Rev. Rick Warren pointed out in his book The Purpose Driven Life that we were “formed for God’s family.” As the family of God, known as Cedar Creek Church, we have care teams who have responded to God’s call to provide spiritual, emotional, and physical support to our church family.

This booklet identifies these teams and what they offer. The people that make up these teams stand by to serve us in both situational and developmental crisis. Examples of situational crises would be health problems, accidents, divorce, death that occurs out of season, financial problems.  A developmental crisis occurs at the birth of a child, graduation, marriage, empty nest, retirement. These crises may be approached with celebration, grief and/or struggles. All of us will eventually experience crisis in life. It’s at those points of need that our care teams stand to love and support our church family. At Cedar Creek our basic point of support comes through our Home Groups. It is the Home Group that serves as our family to assist and support us through all of life’s experiences, crises, and celebrations.  But, sometimes we need more care. This is where our support teams stand by to provide care. At these times we may need more than a Home Group can normally offer. Here are some signs that point to a need to refer and understand:

1.   Dominating Home Group time, and or energy.

2.   Difficulty functioning on a day to day basis.

3.   Crisis of faith.

4.   Difficulty sleeping.

5.   Sense of hopelessness.

6.   Backing out of or not participating in “their normal patterns,” church, family, work.

7.   Overwhelming sadness that dominates life.

8.   Difficulty focusing

9.   Stressed to the point of negatively affecting your life.

10. A need for someone to listen accurately while feeling valued and cared for during a crisis.

This website lists all of our support teams, what they provide, and contact persons. This group stands ready to serve with love, acceptance, and confidentiality. Please, don’t hesitate to call them and/or refer those in need of support and care.

In service to Christ,

Dr. Gary Powell
