More than a Volunteer – Next Steps – Part 4
More than a Volunteer
Next Steps
Part 4
“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal THROUGH US…”2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)
“For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.” 2 Corinthians 4:5 (NIV)
Why Serving is More than Just Volunteering
1) Serving is motivated by love not just by needs.
“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.” 2 Corinthians 5:14 (NIV)
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being RENEWED day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16 (NIV)
“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 (NIV)
2) Serving reflects who God is, not who I am.
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is FROM GOD and not from us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7 (NIV)
“Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the LIFE OF JESUS may also BE SEEN in our bodies.” 2 Corinthians 4:10 (NLT)
3) Serving requires an eternal perspective.
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
“After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed… I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.” 1 Corinthians 3:5-6 (NLT)
