Fighting Fair
To War and To Win – Part 3
“…Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” James 1:19-20 (NIV)
How to Fight Fair
- Stop and listen carefully.
“…Everyone should be QUICK to listen…” vs. 19a (NIV)
“Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.” Proverbs 18:2 (NIV)
2. Choose your words carefully.
“…Everyone should be quick to listen, SLOW to speak…” vs. 19 (NIV)
“Watch your tongue and KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT, and you will stay out of trouble.” Proverbs 21:23 (NLT)
Ground Rules: No name-calling. Don’t raise your voice. Don’t get historical.
Don’t use never or always. Don’t threaten divorce. Don’t quote your pastor!
3. Handle your anger righteously.
“…Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and SLOW TO BECOME ANGRY, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” vs. 19-20 (NIV)
“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” Ephesians 4:26-27 (NIV)
