Show Me the Joy

Belong: A Family Summer – Part 2

How to Build an Attitude of Joy

(Philippians 2:1-11)

  • Start with the right foundation.

“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete…” vs. 1-2 (NIV)

Pillars of Joy:

  • Encouragement

“any encouragement from being united with Christ…”

  • Comfort

“…comfort from HIS love…”

  • Connection

“…if any common sharing in the Spirit…”

  • Tenderness and Compassion

“…if any tenderness and compassion…”

  • Make the right choices.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” vs. 3-4 (NIV)

Say no to selfish ambition and vain conceit

Say yes to the importance of others and the interest of others

  • Follow the right example.

“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” vs. 5 (NLT)

  • Release
  • Service
  • Obedience

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

John 15:13 (NIV)
