The Proclamation of Three Angels
6Then I saw another angel flying high overhead,   with the eternal gospel to announce to the inhabitants of the earth #— #to every nation, tribe, language, and people.   7He spoke with a loud voice:   “Fear God and give him glory,   because the hour of his judgment has come.   Worship the one who made heaven and earth,   the sea and the springs of water.”
8And another, a second angel, followed, saying, “It has fallen, Babylon the Great has fallen.   She made all the nations drink the wine of her sexual immorality,   which brings wrath.”
9And another, a third angel, followed them and spoke with a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10he will also drink the wine of God’s wrath, which is poured full strength into the cup of his anger.   He will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the sight of the holy angels and in the sight of the Lamb, 11and the smoke of their torment will go up forever and ever.   There is no rest  , day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or anyone who receives the mark of its name. 12This calls for endurance from the saints,   who keep God’s commands and their faith in Jesus.”
13Then I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”
“Yes,” says the Spirit, “so they will rest from their labors, since their works follow them.”
Reaping the Earth’s Harvest
14Then I looked, and there was a white cloud, and one like the Son of Man, was seated on the cloud, with a golden crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15Another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the one who was seated on the cloud, “Use your sickle and reap, for the time to reap has come, since the harvest of the earth is ripe.”   16So the one seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.
17Then another angel who also had a sharp sickle came out of the temple in heaven. 18Yet another angel, who had authority over fire, came from the altar, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Use your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the vineyard of the earth, because its grapes have ripened.” 19So the angel swung his sickle at the earth and gathered the grapes from the vineyard of the earth, and he threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.   20Then the press was trampled outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press up to the horses’ bridles for about 180 miles.  ,

Revelation 14 shifts its focus to a series of angelic proclamations. From verses 6 through 13, three angels burst onto the scene, each delivering a vital message. This is the global announcement of God’s final judgment and the eternal consequences of our choices. It’s a cosmic call to attention, a divine megaphone shattering the world’s complacency.

The first angel declares the “eternal gospel,” urging all to repent, and worship God. Time is running out! This isn’t a new gospel, but the timeless truth presented with urgency, against the backdrop of an impending reckoning. Then comes the second angel, announcing the fall of “Babylon the Great,” a symbolic representation of all systems and powers that oppose God. Finally, the third angel delivers a terrifying warning against worshipping the beast and receiving its mark, detailing the eternal torment awaiting those who choose that path.

It’s easy, in our comfortable lives, to filter out such strong warnings. We live in a world that often dismisses notions of divine judgment, preferring a softer, more palatable version of spirituality. Yet, these angelic messages are not whispers; they are trumpet blasts, designed to awaken humanity to the gravity of their decisions. Just as we might ignore an alarm clock, hoping for a few more minutes of sleep, we can become spiritually drowsy, tuning out the urgent call to repentance and true worship.

But the chapter doesn’t end with warnings alone. Verses 14-20 describe the harvest of the earth. Jesus appears with a sharp sickle, and the righteous are gathered like ripe grain. Following this, another angel reaps the grapes of wrath, destined for the wrath of God. This dual harvest illustrates the final, unchangeable separation between those who have embraced the eternal gospel and those who have rejected it. There’s a clear line drawn, a definitive end to the season of choosing.

This section of Revelation is a potent reminder that our choices have eternal significance. It challenges us to examine where our allegiances truly lie. Are we heeding the eternal gospel, giving glory to God, and resisting the allure of worldly systems that oppose Him? Or are we, by our indifference or intentional choices, drifting towards away from God? The urgency of these angelic cries should pierce through our complacency, compelling us to live with the awareness that the harvest is coming, and our standing with Christ alone is what truly matters. May we be found among the precious grain, not the bitter grapes.

Pray: God of glory, open my ears and heart to the urgent warnings and promises of your Word. Help me to fear you reverently and give you glory in all I do. Amen.
