Change of Plans? – Part 2
To process change, we must embrace transition.
Transitions lead to transformation.
Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’ As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4:13-17 (NIV)
1) Trust God more than my plans.
“Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow…” vs. 13-14 (NIV)
“But I trust in you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my God. My times are in your hands…’” Psalm 31:14-15 (NIV)
2) Align my plans with God’s purposes.
“Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’” vs. 15 (NIV)
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to HIS PURPOSE.” Romans 8:28 (NIV)
How: 1) Pray 2) God’s Word 3) Godly counsel
3) Get to it!
“…What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” vs. 14b (NIV)
“Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.” Ecclesiastes 11:4 (NIV)
“If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” vs. 17 (NIV)
