Easter @ CC – Week 3

“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.” Mark 8:35 (NLT)

How to Come and Die

(Mark 14:32-42)

1) Be honest about my struggle.

“He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed. He TOLD them, ‘My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch WITH ME.’” vs. 33-34 (NLT)

“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 (NLT)

2) Abandon my way and my will.

“‘Abba, Father,’ he cried out, ‘everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me…’

vs. 36a (NLT)

“‘…Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.’” vs. 36b (NIV)

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me…” Galatians 2:20 (NIV)

3) Push back against my temporary needs.

“When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy…” vs. 40 (NIV)

“Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation…” vs. 38 (NLT)
