How Satan Opposes Us
“so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.” 2 Corinthians 2:11 (NLT)
1. Using the world around us. “The prince of this world” (John 12:31)
“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you… For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.” 1 John 2:15-16 (NLT)
2. Using the desires within us. “The Tempter” (1 Thessalonians 3:5)
“Temptation comes from our own desires, which ENTICE us and drag us away.” James 1:14 (NLT)
3. Using the lies we tell ourselves. “The father of lies” (John 8:44)
“You (God) want me to be completely truthful…” Psalm 51:6 (NCV)
How to Fight Back
1) Resist the devil.
“But you, man of God, FLEE from all this, and PURSUE righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.” 1 Timothy 6:11 (NIV)
2) Humble yourself before God.
“Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.” Acts 19:16 (NIV)
“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory…because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” 1 John 4:4 (NLT)
